Mountain Residence
Nestled into the scenic mountainscape of Canmore, the Blue Grouse Mountain residence balances the characteristics of a traditional home with more modern, clean lines of the Japanese inspired aesthetic of the previous owners.
A mid scale renovation, we honored the incredibly unique floor plan which features series of octagonal shaped rooms connected to a central circular atrium opening to the sky. The update included a new kitchen, bathrooms, updated finishes and new lighting throughout. The intent was to maintain the architectural bones of the house but update the typical yellow birch cabin vibes. More than a weekend get-away, the space doubles as a rental property with large seating areas as well additional washrooms that were added in the basement to ensure privacy and efficiency for guests. This also means that durable materials were key.
Throughout the home, the warmer woods were contrasted against blacks and grey almost industrial materials giving the space a modern mountain vibe. Organic white and raven coloured Caesarstone countertops contrast each other beautifully, with “guest-friendly” elements incorporated into the kitchen to make entertaining a breeze. The master ensuite is a bit of a departure from the rest of the home, moody + lux, making for the perfect weekend retreat.
