Stanley Park Residence

After losing their home during the Calgary floods of 2013, this client took time to rebuild ensuring that their decisions reflected the needs of their evolved family.

With children who had since left for school, the couple wanted a space that would be a sanctuary for the next phase of their life and came to the decision-making process with intention and pragmatism. This balance allowed for a poetic solution that merged to create a space that was practical, sophisticated and thoughtful.

The client’s vision for a moodier, hotel-inspired palette was a welcome challenge from the classic white interiors that dominate most homes. The layering of textural materials, rich fabrics and muted tones allowed the home to keep from feeling melancholy and instead be a welcome retreat. This enduring home is punctuated with mid-century modern elements that speak to the client’s shared love of Palm Springs and added a playful touch.

The clients became increasingly more thoughtful in their decisions and practical in the creative process, which we believe creates a purposeful and poetic solution to the design.
